Mitten-Gloves

These well loved fingerless gloves turn into mittens when you flip up the flap. When you don't want the flap, it stays in place with an oversized button.

The pattern for this came from "Simple Knits, Mittens & Gloves," pattern "Magic Mitten Gloves". When I got the book, I decided that these were so adorable that all of my little nieces and nephews needed to have these. I knit 10 of them in time for the Hannukah/Christmas season, each one a bit different. (I didn't quite make it, so my own kids got theirs in January.)

This pair is in Patons Kroy Socks Yarn, color Blu Striped Rag, which I doubled to make thick enough for the pattern. I shortened the length of the hand and the flap to fit 5 year old hands, although as you can see they are still in use at age 9. I also added a flap on the thumb, because little thumbs get cold in the winter. I knit this in the round (the pattern knits it flat) using size 3 for the rib and size 6 for the rest.
