French Cape
This stylish cape was quick and easy to knit. It was a good lesson in using short rows and was lots of fun to make. My daughter's doll is now ready to out out in the fall weather!
I used the pattern "Petite Parisienne" in Knits for Dolls by Nicky Epstein. It's knit sideways, from one side of the front opening to the other. Using short rows, each section makes a triangle that when repeated form a spiral. The garter stitch adds texture while the variegated yarn in fall colors means it will go well with lots of things. The bottom edge is then tacked on either side to form "sleeves." There's a snap sewn in at the neck under the button, so there's no making a button hole.
This was definitely fun to knit. I hadn't really worked with short rows before this, and wrap-and-turn was new to me. I made two of these before I realized that you are supposed to pick up the wrap when you knit the wrapped stitch, so it has little holes where the short rows end (oops). I toyed with the idea of putting a bead at the holes, but haven't done it yet. If I need to make a blingier cape, I'll try it.
