Garden Party Dress

This light airy dress is perfect for a sunny afternoon outside tea party. It features a lace bodice and a low cut back with nylon snaps at the shoulders for easy dressing.

This design is my own creation (see my blog "Doll Birthday Party? New Dress!") which I knit in the round using Aunt Lydia's Crochet Thread, Fashion 3 in white, using size 2 needles. It uses purls and slip stitches to mark the folds, which then have to be blocked to keep in place. With the lace in the pleats I tried to simplify the lace in the skirt I was modeling and it wound up as you see it.

The bodice I made high enough in the front to be modest (the doll is about eleven years old) but swooping in the back to keep it feeling somewhat grown-up. The inner edge is an I-cord edging using slip 2. I used nylon snaps at the shoulders rather than grafting them because my daughter was having trouble sliding the dress on over the doll's head, even with the deep back opening.
