Darth Vader Edged Scarf

I made this for my nephew who is in love with Star Wars, using one ball of yarn for the main body and double-knitting for the helmets.

The yarn grabbed my attention in the store and inspired me to make another Darth Vader scarf. It is Lion Brand Scarfie in cranberry/black, and the image is double-knit in Lion Brand Wool-Ease, one skein cranberry and one skein black. Both are machine washable, although the Scarfie needs to air dry, which makes it perfect for a seven-year-old.

Some time ago I made a Darth Vader scarf for my own son (a picture is on the home page), so I started with the pattern I used for the first one. The earlier one I knit the image sideways, so I had to turn it and play with the dimensions until it looked right. Since I don't like one-sided scarfs, I decided on double-knitting the helmet then switching to four-by-four ribbing in the ombré yarn. When I got to the end of the Scarfie yarn I set it aside, leaving the stitches live, knit the second helmet, then grafted the two pieces together.

My daughter had fun modeling this. I can't wait to see my nephew wear it. He will be the envy of all his friends!

Want the pattern? Let me know.
